How long have you been with Goji? What is your role on your team?
I started at Goji in April 2022, so this month will be celebrating my one year anniversary – it makes you realise how quickly time flies! I am an Operations Consultant, working with our private funds clients to ensure the platform is suited to their needs. My typical day is very fluid and tends to be based around meetings, both internally and with clients.
What initially interested you about Goji? What do you enjoy about working here?
Having previously worked within the financial services industry, I was aware of how agile and exciting the fintech space was. This, coupled with the chance to learn about the ever growing private equity market, was enough to convince me that Goji was the right fit. I quickly learned that one of the firm’s biggest strengths was the ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently, with a focus on providing the best outcome for our clients, which is extremely satisfying. I really enjoy the working culture that has been built. You are encouraged to proactively engage with other teams and build strong relationships to bring the company closer together.
Where did you work prior to joining Goji? How has this shaped your role here?
Prior to joining, I worked for an investment platform called Transact for just under 5 years, where I provided administration for financial advisors, distributors and direct investors. Working with people with varying levels of investment experience gave me a great understanding and perspective of the market and the typical day to day trends that you would see.
Give us the inside scoop – what are some of the unique aspects of working at Goji?
The people focused culture is something that I have not experienced in previous roles. You are very much treated as an individual, and you can quite easily have a conversation with senior management, rather than being blocked off by corporate structure levels. We also have dedicated sessions for social interaction and wellbeing of colleagues, such as quarterly socials, brunches and also festive themed celebrations.
What was your dream job as a child? Tell us a bit about your journey to where you are today.
Other than the usual childhood dreams of becoming a footballer or cricketer, I also wanted to be a marine biologist. Although I never took a single step towards this goal, I have always been a huge fan of animals and in particular, aquatic animals. Books such as ‘When the Whales came’ gave me belief that helping animals was the way to get closest to them. Now that I am an adult with a poor swimming technique, I have made the decision to stick to having a dog!
What would you do if you had unlimited free time?
I would spend a lot of money on golf balls, I imagine. I like to spend my time playing & watching sports – Football, Golf, Cricket, NFL, anything – so I imagine I would spend quite a bit of time doing that. I would also follow the mighty Brentford on their upcoming European tour. Spending time with my girlfriend and dog is also important to me, so I would more than likely spend a lot of time going for long walks along the beautiful Essex rivers (honestly, they’re quite nice!).
Any fun projects on the horizon? What are you and your team up to next?
We are currently working with Apex to onboard more of their offices onto the Goji Platform. Given their size, it’s a big undertaking, but will be rewarding for both parties. We’re also recruiting for another member to join the Enterprise Operations team, which will grow the team and help add more knowledge of the private funds space, which is very exciting. The development of the new Fundsettle platform with Euroclear is also bringing a lot of new and intriguing tasks to the team.
