Employee spotlight: Ally Beechinor-Collins

Meet Ally, a Senior Product Manager at Goji

How long have you been with Goji and what is your role at the company?

I’ve been with Goji for seven years, I’m basically part of the furniture by now! I started in Operations and have since moved through Integrations, Tech Support, and QA. I joined the Product department three years ago and am now a Senior Product Manager.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My days are varied, but they typically begin with a stand-up meeting with my squad to discuss the latest updates. A key part of my role is then to plan out new features and ensure all stakeholders are aligned, especially on more complex initiatives, before handing these over to the engineers. This is often followed by a mix of meetings with the squad lead to align on priorities and with the Operations team to gather feedback on new features requested by our customers. I'm also currently working closely with Euroclear on a new and exciting project!

Give us the inside scoop – what are some unique aspects of working here?

The people are a unique aspect of working here! The company is small enough that you can get to know everyone, and during our social events, it's great to see how much everyone genuinely gets along. I really value being able to connect with my colleagues and talk about something other than work!

If you could swap jobs with someone else at Goji for a day, who would it be and why?

I would love to swap with a member of the People and Culture team. I'm fascinated by the conversations that go into shaping our company culture and how they use employee feedback to make things better for everyone!

What is your favourite memory from your time here?

My favourite memory is from our most recent sports day this summer. It was a brilliant event that brought everyone together and was just as enjoyable as the sports day we held about six years ago. It’s a great way to encourage people from different departments to mix and have a good laugh. Watching our General Counsel fall off a space hopper was definitely a highlight!

What is the most rewarding aspect of your current role and what are some of the unique challenges you face in this sector?

The most rewarding part of my role is seeing the features my squad delivers go live and knowing our work is directly impacting clients. When we deliver a feature a client has requested, getting that positive feedback is such a brilliant feeling!

One of the unique challenges is stakeholder management. It’s a key part of my role and a challenge I'm always up for. I enjoy the balancing act of aligning priorities with business needs, customer demands, and technical requirements.

What was your dream job as a child?

I wanted to be an architect. I think that was just because I liked Lego. Designing buildings seemed a lot like playing with bricks, but with a better salary! Growing up I quickly realised the job would be far harder than that!

What would you do if you had unlimited free time?

I would love to tackle another renovation project! When my fiancé and I renovated our flat a couple of years ago, I really enjoyed choosing the colours, tiles, cabinets, and designs. I also loved getting my hands dirty with the painting, plastering, and tiling. Stripping seven layers of wallpaper was my least favourite part, though!

I would also love to travel more, exploring new places I haven't yet visited. South America is at the top of my list, and seeing the Salt Flats in Bolivia has been a lifelong dream. It would also be lovely to spend more time in Ireland with my family.

Any fun projects on the horizon? What are you and your team up to next?

My team and I will soon be looking at revamping our onboarding flow to make it as simple and efficient as possible for clients. We are approaching this project with a fresh perspective, and we are excited to make it as streamlined as possible for users!
